The rumour mills were whirring faster than the traffic in Marbella earlier this week when David Beckham arrived in town to film a new television advert for sportswear brand Adidas.
The world famous footballer was spotted on Monday running across a town centre pedestrian crossing and along Marbella’s promenade (paseo maritimo) wearing a bright blue lycra top and running shoes with longer style black shorts. Tattoos on full view, he received more than a few admiring glances as the cast and crew attempted to evoke a summery feeling, with the extras dressed in floral short onesies, sleeveless tops and sandals.
Even though filming for the advert started early in the morning and continued on until sunset, passersby were lucky to catch a glimpse of Beckham. For much of the work involved in setting up the shots, a Beckham double was used and it wasn’t until the director was happy with all the angles, lighting and sequencing that the star himself was invited to participate!
Witnesses said that Beckham seemed to be enjoying himself, chatting to those working on the commercial. He was probably grateful to spend a few hours thawing out under the warm winter sun in Marbella having just experienced his first British winter freeze for some time. Of course, the Beckhams are no strangers to Spain; the family spent a few years living in Madrid before transferring to California where they have lived for the past five years.
David Beckham is alleged to have earned £13.3 million from sponsorship deals in 2011. In 2003 he reportedly signed a lifetime contract with Adidas and has frequently starred in their paper and film advertising campaigns. Before moving to the United States, the Beckhams were frequent visitors to the Costa del Sol and are sure to be reacquainting themselves with Spain now that they are settling as a family in the UK once again.
