The glamour of Marbella has been intrinsically linked to a succession of international celebrities visiting the town, both to enjoy its lifestyle and to provide first-class entertainment to residents and visitors alike—and 2016 will carry on that tradition.
Musically, it promises to be a vintage year for Marbella, with a host of star names of the calibre of Sir Tom Jones, Seal, Santana and Robert Plant due to perform in the town. There will be something for everyone, with a wide variety of musical styles represented from electronic dance to Ukrainian pop, classical greats to Spanish melodies and good old fashioned Rock.
Some of the biggest names will once more be appearing at Marbella’s Starlite Festival. Now in its fifth year, the event has rapidly grown into one of the most important music festivals in Spain, attracting major artists to the unique open-air auditorium at the Nagüeles quarry. Headline acts this year include Welsh superstar Sir Tom Jones (August 1st), legendary guitarist Carlos Santana (July 24th), French master Charles Aznavour (July 29th), Marbella resident and Spanish favourite Julio Iglesias (August 5th), multiple Grammy winner Alejandro Sanz (August 9th) and classical cross-over quartet Il Divo (August 3rd), who have sold more than 30 million discs world-wide. The festival will open with a concert by Robert Plant—former lead singer of Led Zeppelin—along with his band The Sensational Space Shifters on July 16th.
The Starlite Festival may be the most important musical event this summer, but it is by no means the only venue for big name musicians in Marbella. The Puente Romano tennis club on the Golden Mile has once again drawn up a programme of concerts, with star billing going to British singer Seal—now celebrating 25 years in show business—who will take to the stage on July 18th.
The following night Raphael—known as a pioneer of modern Spanish music and internationally renowned, especially in Latin America—will perform at Marbella’s bullring (Plaza del Toros), while hugely popular flamenco singer Pasión Vega will hold a concert at Marbella’s Estadio Municipal football ground on June 4th.
Slightly further afield, Fuengirola Castle is the venue for one of the most popular bands from the 1980s and 90s when Mick Hucknall and Simply Red will perform a selection of their greatest hits on August 18th, while the electronic beats of DJ Armin van Buuren will feature at San Pedro Alcantára’s football stadium on July 30th. On top of this, many of Marbella’s clubs feature nightly entertainment from international DJs as well as talented local musicians.
The musical offering of the area is just one of the reasons the town has such a glamorous image as a fun destination. Should you like to experience the Marbella lifestyle, please contact us—we have a fine selection properties for sale on the Costa del Sol.
